Terms & Conditions

Last updated: 11 August 2026. Version 0.2.

1. Who these terms are for

These Terms apply to anyone who creates an account on Greyhound Sales (harlequingreyhoundsales.co.uk), operated by [HARLEQUIN LEGAL ENTITY NAME] ("Harlequin", "we", "us"). That includes buyers registering to purchase a dog, sellers ("vendors") registering to list a dog for sale, and anyone advertising a dog at stud. By creating an account you confirm you are at least 18 years old and agree to these Terms. Anyone currently disqualified from any horse-racing or greyhound-racing stadium is not permitted to buy or sell a greyhound through this site — if this comes to light after a sale, Harlequin will report it to the GRI and/or the GBGB.

2. Accounts

A buyer account is required to purchase a dog — there is no guest checkout. A seller account is free to create and lets you submit a dog for sale; every seller-submitted listing is reviewed by Harlequin before it appears publicly (see section 6). You're responsible for keeping your account password secure and for the accuracy of the name, email, and phone number you register with.

3. Ownership & authority to sell

Only the registered owner of a greyhound, or someone the owner has authorised to act on their behalf, may list it for sale on this site — please do not submit a listing for a dog you do not own or are not authorised to sell. Harlequin will contact the registered owner directly at the point of sale to confirm the transaction before any payout is made; that confirmation must come from the owner, not a representative.

4. How a sale works

Harlequin acts as merchant of record for every sale on this site — whether the dog is Harlequin-owned or a third-party consignment. There is no online card payment: once you click "Buy Now" (or your offer is accepted, see section 9) an order is created and you're shown Harlequin's payment details to complete payment by bank transfer or Revolut. Full payment is due within 24 hours of the order being placed unless otherwise agreed with Harlequin, and there is no deposit/balance split. No dog is moved from the seller until full payment has been made and received. A dog is only marked as sold once Harlequin has manually confirmed receipt of your payment. If a dog you've ordered becomes unavailable before your payment is confirmed (for example, a mix-up between two interested buyers), any funds you've already transferred will be refunded in full.

Once a dog leaves the seller's premises, the buyer becomes its owner and takes on full responsibility for it — all ownership/registration paperwork is then the buyer's responsibility, and must be transferred into the buyer's name within 7 days of the sale completing. Any dog sold "with passport" will have current L4 vaccinations recorded in it.

5. Buyer eligibility & moving a dog

To buy a greyhound through this site you must be a registered owner with the GBGB, or hold a valid ICC number as an owner in Ireland. No greyhound bought through this site will be moved outside the UK or Ireland without the consent of the GRI or the GBGB, which will require a signed export form from whichever body applies. A dog being delivered within the UK must go to a GBGB trainer or representative holding a current GBGB licence; in Ireland, delivery must be to the purchaser directly. This applies to buyers anywhere in the world — an international sale is only possible with the correct export licence and delivery arrangements in place.

6. Seller listings & review

Submitting a dog for sale does not make it live immediately — every seller submission is reviewed by Harlequin, who may approve, request changes to, or reject a listing at Harlequin's discretion (for example, if the information provided looks incomplete or inaccurate). By submitting a listing, you confirm that the information and any photos you provide are accurate and that you have the right to sell or advertise the dog described. Harlequin checks listing details against official data from the GRI and the GBGB where available; any claims about unofficial trials are made on trust between buyer and seller and cannot be independently verified by Harlequin, which has no access to unofficial trial data.

7. Sales commission

For third-party (vendor-owned) dogs, Harlequin deducts a 5% commission from the sale price before paying out the remainder to the seller, by bank transfer or Revolut, once your payment has been received in full. Harlequin may agree a different rate with a particular vendor for a particular dog — the rate shown on the dog's listing is the one that applies. Buyers are never charged commission on a purchase.

8. Stud Dogs adverts

Advertising a dog at stud is a separate, paid hosting service — Harlequin charges a recurring weekly fee to keep the advert live on the site, currently billed by bank transfer. The "Service Fee" shown on a stud advert is the amount a breeder pays the dog's owner directly to use the dog at stud — that payment is strictly between the breeder and the advertiser and does not pass through Harlequin or this site in any way.

9. Buyer questions & answers

Registered buyers can ask public questions on a dog's listing page, answered by the seller or by Harlequin. Questions and answers are visible to everyone, not just the two parties, and must not contain contact details (email addresses, phone numbers) — these are automatically blocked at submission and Harlequin may remove any question or answer at its discretion. All contact about buying or selling a dog goes through Harlequin, not directly between buyer and seller.

10. Making an offer

On listings where it's enabled, you can make an offer below the advertised price instead of paying it in full — unreasonably low offers will not be accepted. Depending on how the seller has configured the listing, an offer may be accepted automatically or reviewed manually; a manually-reviewed offer may be accepted, rejected (optionally with a note explaining why), or met with a counter-offer, which you're free to accept or decline. An accepted offer (whether automatic or manual) becomes an order under section 4 above, at the agreed price. As with all contact on this site, any message attached to an offer must not contain contact details.

11. No warranty on a dog's condition, health, or pedigree

Harlequin does not independently verify the health, temperament, or racing history of any dog listed for sale, beyond pedigree and race-form data pulled from official Irish Greyhound Board (grireland.ie) records where available. Vendors are responsible for the accuracy of information they provide about their own dog. Buyers are strongly encouraged to ask questions before purchasing (see section 9) and to arrange their own veterinary check where appropriate — buying a dog through this site does not include any guarantee as to its health or suitability. Buyers should carry out their own due diligence before purchasing; responsibility for that purchase decision rests with the buyer.

12. Transport & paperwork

Harlequin can arrange transport for a purchased dog and will assist with ownership-transfer paperwork after a sale completes. Full details of any transport arrangement (cost, timing) are confirmed directly with Harlequin after purchase and are not part of the dog's advertised price unless stated otherwise on the listing.

13. Disputes between buyer and seller

All sales are between the buyer and the seller. If an issue arises after a sale, Harlequin will put the buyer and seller directly in touch to resolve it, but Harlequin is not itself a party to, and will not get involved in, any dispute between a buyer and a seller.

14. Data protection

Harlequin collects the name, email address, and phone number you register with, plus records of any orders, listings, offers, or messages you submit, in order to operate the site. Full details of what's collected, why, and your rights over it are in our Privacy Policy.

15. Indemnity

You agree to indemnify Harlequin, its data providers, and its affiliates against any losses, damages, and costs they suffer arising from your use, provision, or distribution of information through this site, or from any breach of these Terms by you.

16. Liability

Nothing in these Terms limits Harlequin's liability where the law does not allow it to be limited (for example, for fraud). Subject to that, Harlequin's total liability to you arising from your use of this site is limited to the amount you paid Harlequin in the transaction giving rise to the claim. Harlequin is not liable for indirect or consequential losses. Every effort is made to represent listings on this site accurately, but Harlequin does not warrant that all information supplied by sellers is complete or error-free (see section 11).

17. Suspending or closing an account

Harlequin may suspend or close a buyer or seller account that breaches these Terms, submits repeatedly inaccurate listings, or misuses the site (for example, spamming submissions or attempting to contact another user outside the platform to avoid commission).

18. General

These Terms are governed by the law of [ENGLAND AND WALES / IRELAND], and may be updated from time to time — the "last updated" date at the top of this page will change when they are. Continuing to use the site after an update means you accept the revised Terms.
